My relationship with beavers is usually simple: I see one — it dives. Most of the time, they spot me and vanish underwater with a loud splash or swim off on important beaver business. If I’m lucky, I catch one having dinner and can sneak in a better shot than just a floating head.

But this guy was different. For nearly an hour, he gave me a personal runway show: swimming back and forth, coming ashore for a snack, even posing in the grass. And when I stepped away to change my composition — he swam right back, as if asking, “Ready to capture the perfect shot?”
