Gates of Light

Sometimes the road leads not only deeper into the forest, but deeper into mystery. In search of the last gleams of the fading day, I turned onto one of the backroads of the 100 Mile Wilderness, and suddenly before me unfolded a vision that seemed more like a myth than reality.

The forest ignited with golden flames, and between the spruces a portal of light opened, like a gateway to another world. I froze, filled with awe and wonder, glancing around in search of witnesses to make sure this wasn’t a hallucination.

The miracle did not last long — just a fleeting moment of eternity. Within a minute it was gone, as if it had never been.
