When I first noticed this Barred Owl, she was facing away — just about 15 steps from me. I knew that even the slightest movement could startle her. As she slowly began to glance around, I could tell she was uneasy. So I froze, becoming part of the scenery. And then, as if in quiet trust, she turned and gently tilted her head. That’s when I received my reward — this moment, this photo: “Heart of Calm.”
